I’m lucky to have friends help out when I need it. Lou came to the farm today to help cut down another tree and it is great to have someone there to lift those heavy rounds onto the splitter. This giant red oak, probably the max size that I could handle cutting and splitting, took 4 tankfuls of the chainsaw gas to cut up — unbelievable! We netted over 3/4 of a cord from the one tree. Of course, we do have larger oaks on the property that would give cords of wood from one tree but they’re just too massive to cut. I’d rather keep them as legacy trees in the landscape & for the wildlife. They produced loads of acorns this year and those turkeys are definitely getting fatter.
